Apparently middle eastern governments are so eager to please their people these days – whenever the issue is not about freedom of speech.
- Egypt: Yesterday, in a swift and courageous move, the Islamic Brotherhood in Egypt called for killing all pigs in the country to protect against the Swine Flu.
What is even more shocking, is that the Egyptian Government actually agreed, and issued an edict to slaughter all 400,000 pics in EGYPT! The Egyptian government vowed to reimburse pig keepers for the dead.
- Jordan: Jordanian authorities, not to be undermined, started putting pig keepers in jail suddenly and letting them go only after signing an agreement to kill all their pigs (no discussion of reimbursement). (for some reason the reference to Jordan’s position is not on AlJazeera anymore)
- Lebanon: even Lebanon fell into this trap and stopped importing pigs into the country.
This craziness is taking place while in fact PIGS DO NOT TRANSMIT the new deadly swine fue (the H1N1 strain). It’s just called swine flu.
