I think this is worth a vote. "The movie 2012 shows the whole world collapsing – many monuments falling and rolling. As a Muslim, would you like to include the destruction of Islamic monuments (e.g. Kaba) in this movie?"
I'll ask Roba or Naseem to ask this
[I don't support polling yet]
Emmerich: "Well, I wanted to do that [show the destruction of Kaba], I have to admit," the filmmaker told scifiwire.com. "But my co-writer Harald [Kloser] said, 'I will not have a fatwa on my head because of a movie.' And he was right."
Emmerich went on: "We have to all, in the western world, think about this. You can actually let Christian symbols fall apart, but if you would do this with [an] Arab symbol, you would have … a fatwa, and that sounds a little bit like what the state of this world is. So it's just something which I kind of didn't [think] was [an] important element, anyway, in the film, so I kind of left it out."

26Oct(hat tip to Chareffine)Robert Lustig, MD, a UCSF pediatric neuroendocrinologist, says that sugar, especially the fructose part, is very harmful. he says that a calorie is not a calorie because fructose-calories do not get digested the same way in the body:very similar to Taube's explanation.

24Oct(hat tip to Husam)A fascinating project! They are simulating a rat's brain at the chemical level. They expect that in less than 10 years, they will be able to reproduce the exact behavior of the human brain on a single computer. They are probably a bit too optimistic, but I would not say that this goal is unachievable.

Chris Gardner, a professor of nutrition at Stanford University, and a 25-year strict vegetarian ran an impressive study petting 4 diets for a whole year. Read the summary here. The attrition rate is one of the lowest in such studies, around 20%.
The lecture is very interesting if you have the time, but if you insist on results:
- Subjects on Atkins lost the most, an average of 10 pounds
- Atkins subjects showed the best health & lowest risk factors: Cholesterol, etc.
- interesting People with Insulin Resistance did GREAT on Atkins. While people with sensitive/healthy insulin did almost the same on all diets.
- He says that several times: it is very hard for a 25-year vegetarian to admit Atkins is good. He started the study with the expectation to debunk Atkins.
- On all 4 types of diets, some subjects were able to lose 30 pounds and keep it off for a year.
